The mural at Annabelle, located in Autry Park, Houston's newest urban village along Buffalo Bayou, was composed from a conglomerate of Parisian street side reference photos aimed to capture a quintessential cafe corner in the City of Light. The art niche I painted on, measuring 10ft wide by 5.5ft tall, was a unique shape to capture an entire vignette. Due to the rectangular nature and curved edges, I chose to shrink my sketch and fade out the lines from all sides, so the viewer wouldn't be overwhelmed by the entire scene all at once. The wall of the mural is primed grasscloth wallpaper, so I used interior latex mixed with fluid matte medium and glazing medium to make sure I could have a painterly effect while protecting the grasscloth. I was inspired by the expressive line work in my own figurative art and the illustrative quality of expressionism art in France in the early 20th century.
